A beginner's approach to teaching French

We realise that if you are a beginner in French, having to teach it could be a daunting prospect.  Here's a helpful video of a teacher in the same position with some ideas of how he got started. Pierre seems to be a big hit!  We too think that making French a regular part of the school day is the way forward as little and often is more meaningful for pupils and a manageable approach.

Salut!

We're hoping that our 1+2 programme will enable you to drip-feed French into the school day, helping pupils to learn and understand the language in real situations within school and ENJOY the language through music, movement, games, stories, activities and project work.

The model we are working on is 10 minutes of French four times a week and one 20 minute session to give pupils an hour of the language a week.  We've also included some longer activities for when you feel they will fit into your planning.  Our resources are therefore divided into "10 minute lesson ideas" and "longer activities".

Click on the tabs at the top to access the planning for each year group.  We're still in the early stages so please feel free to feed back at any time, all comments are welcome.  Our aim is to create something that's workable, realistic and easy to implement so your expertise along the way would be greatly appreciated.

À plus,
